Well we're off
So exciting that after some great work on the part of my daughter Maddy, her friend Claudia, my son Thomas and web designer Ben Cooper of Presence Design, the Forgotten Arts Yarn website is now up and operational. It's been a really exciting process and one I've really enjoyed. Now of course I just have to get the dyeing happening and see if my little fledgling business will fly.
This week I've started dyeing a new product a 4 ply sock yarn 80% Merino Wool 20% Nylon Machine washable (a must for socks). It reminds me of Neapolitan ice cream so that's probably the name that will stick. I'm really looking forward to winding this up into a skein and seeing what it looks like as all the colours merge together. I used a different mordant on this wool, so the harakeke pods are much darker than previously and the cochineal is quite a bright pink.
You may think that my naming of the wool is a little strange, using old fashion movie stars such as Betty Davis, Ginger Roger and Fred Astaire to name a few. As a child my mother loved the movie stars of her era and together we would spend a quiet Sunday afternoon watching an old movie, often featuring Betty Davis, Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland together with a raft of 40's movie stars who were so glamorous. These names are a salute to my mum who would be chuffed to think that our Sunday afternoons together were remembered with such fondness.
I hope you enjoy looking around the website. Thank you for taking the time to visit. Until next time .......
Excellent little blog... loving the movie star names.. nostalgic yet clever. Hope the takeoff of the site is successful.
